IATA against Russian parts ban

IATA (International Air Transport Association) has voiced their opinion on the parts ban against Russian airlines, it said that this could compromise safety.

Airbus, Boeing and Embraer have all suspended their maintenance and parts support for Russian carriers in compliance with EU and U.S. sanctions imposed as a result to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Boeing closed its operations centers in Kyiv and Moscow on Monday and by Tuesday it had completely shut-down, Airbus followed soon after on Wednesday and Embraer on Thursday.

Russia had a reputation for a very poor safety record for a long time but recently it has been trying to turn that reputation around, their safety record has improved dramatically over the past few years.

IATA notes that airlines will keep flying aircraft regardless of if they have parts or not, and that all that will do is put civilians at risk and compromise air safety.
