Wizz Air set to resume flights to Russia

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a subsidiary of Wizz Air, has announced it will be resuming flights to Russia starting in October. The airline, which initially started service to Moscow back in December last year, was forced to suspend service in February due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine; while the suspension was initially expected to last only a few weeks, it was later announced that the airline would be canceling service to Russia throughout the summer until October 30th.

However, it has now been announced that the airline’s service from Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) to Vnukovo International Airport (VLO) in Moscow will resume earlier than expected on October 3rd; the airline plans to operate daily flights between the two cities.

It is important to note that while this news may seem surprising, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is not the only airline flying to Russia from the UAE; At the same time, most of the Western world has imposed sanctions on Russian airlines and aircraft many others have not followed suit. The UAE currently has three carriers operating flights to Russia; Etihad Airways operates daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Moscow Sheremetyevo International Aiport (SVO), while Emirates and flydubai both operate flights to Moscow Domodedovo Mikhail Lomonosov Airport (DME) from Dubai International Airport (DXB).
